October To Do List

Autumn is upon us, and that means I am losing my damn mind because I am all about fall. Fall is my favorite. It's so crispy and cuddly! October is my favorite month of the year because I get to be extra spooky and plan Halloween costumes. I really love Halloween and the stars have aligned so that this year, Halloween is on a Friday. That means multiple costumes! I also love that it marks half way through the semester and my school's short but sweet Fall Break!

Here's a fun October to-do list!

Make a fall floral arrangement. People think florals are a springtime thing, but fall florals are wonderful as well! I like incorporating reds, oranges, and yellows to really give it a fall weather feel. Using wheat, reeds, and cat tails can also add cozy warmth!

Plan some fun Halloween costumes. If you're planning on having a bangin' Halloweekend, you might not want to wear the same outfit for 3 days in row-- if only because it's kind of super gross. I like doing costumes in sort of a loose interpretation that allows me to pick up cool wardrobe pieces, So I'm doing Heather Chandler from Heathers (peep that look here) and also Mabel Pines from Gravity Falls (I haven't put that one together yet, but it's on its way!)-- I might also do Steven from Steven Universe or Bee from Bee and Puppycat. Not sure yet. PS- Here's a friendly reminder to not engage in any stupid, racist activity, like wearing a culture as a costume, or even worse, engaging in in demeaning practices like black face, brown face, or yellow face. I guarantee you it's not edgy, cool, or funny to be making the same "jokes" as a crotchety old white guy who still refers to the Pre-Civil Rights Era as "the good old days." If you're not sure whether or not something is cool, you can probably just NOT do the thing you're iffy about. There are literally millions of things you can dress as, so crossing one potentially hurtful idea off the list is not going to kill you.

Watch a spooky, fun movie. I'll probably post a list of some favorites this month (EDIT: Done!), but you know it's October because you begin to feel the intense urge to watch Hocus Pocus. I'm not a particular fan of horror movies, because personally a lot of times they're poorly written and rely on gore or scantily clad hot women to carry your interest, but I'll be posting some of my spooky faves. Don't forget to have friends over and enjoy some Halloween-y snacks!

What's your favorite spooktacular movie?
