Weekly Update 004

So much has happened in two weeks. Here are those things, in no particular order.

I packed and moved to Brooklyn. I live in a different place now! Packing is a stressful and overwhelming process but I did it and I moved. My movers were two pretty string bean looking guys but bot were they AMAZING MOVERS! They did what I thought was gonna be a 3-4 hour job in almost exactly 2 hours. I'm still working on getting my place together, but with all the upheaval this past weekend, I'm not very far into the "settling in" process.

I've been thinking about how mad I am about mannequins with nipples. I have many very good reasons for being infuriated by them. I think about this about 10 times per year, and my conclusion is always that they ruin everything and are terrible.

I saw The Crucible on Broadway. The Crucible is one of my favorite plays and I have a crush on Saoirse Ronan (beauty, talent, and brains-- she is everything) so I was super excited when my friend Beth invited me to join her! It was solid. I liked most of the choices made, and can I just say that GILES COREY STOLE THE DAMN SHOW. If you like The Crucible, I do recommend.

I bought furniture. I haven't bought new furniture in... forever? I've bought things from thrift stores and craigslist, but I've never bought myself new furniture. I got a small shelf set from Target and ordered some pieces from Wayfair. I'm happy with the amount I paid, but the stuff from Wayfair still hasn't come in yet-- I will report back on that.

I saw Finding Dory. I cried a lot. She'd been missing since she was a lil baby, you guys. It was great but you will cry. Also, I'm definitely the sea lions.

I realized that there are really people named Jake who work for State Farm. They probably love to introduce themselves as "Jake. From State Farm." I imagine that they only wear khakis, and that they have a Facebook group where they catch up with each other from around the country. I also like to imagine that every year, they pick a different state and rent out a Six Flags for a "Jake from State Farm" reunion. I feel like it's a long shot that all of that is true, but by choosing to believe it, I live in a slightly more magical world.

I watched Pacific Rim for the first time. I loved it. I also loved how many Futurama references were in it. Apparently Del Toro is a big Futurama fan too. A brother named Yancy? Come on.

That's my life in a nutshell right now. What's new with you?

Weekly Update 003

Wowowow I am so bad at keeping up with this update every Thursday thing. Admittedly, I'm super busy, leaving me super tired recently, because a lot is going on. I started to do these updates because I wanted to give everyone a peek into all of the "everything" going on in my world, so please bear with me as I get up to speed with the scheduling of everything. Apologies also for the lack of updates on my Youtube channel. Same problem, but Youtube is even harder to make time for since editing takes 3+ hours for me, and in the midst of packing, I lost my mouse, which means I'm even slower. Rest assured though, I will be uploading again after I finish moving. Anyway, here's some stuff happening in my life recently.

Movers are booked. So I'm really glad I have this done, but now I'm trying hard to not be overwhelmed by packing. I don't own that many things, but moving is just generally an intimidating process. I have to take down all my wall art and pack that safely, sort through all my belongings and decide what is and isn't worth taking with me... It doesn't sound overwhelming at all, until I look at my room and think, "nope." I'm getting boxes for my move from the liquor store across the street, which is saving me lots of money. Little things like that are helping me not get overwhelmed by everything.

I visited our apartment. My roommate moved in on the 1st (part way, just to take the first load of things in, check out the neighborhood, and be there to get our wifi set up) and I joined her after work to hang out at our new place. I love it. There are so many closets. It's hard to even get one closet in NY! We have a nice quiet neighborhood by the park and I'm so happy with the space. We had seen the apartment before with our broker, but it's totally different when you're there knowing it's yours, and planning out your new life in a great home with your best friend.

I started watching The Path on Hulu. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's certainly mine. It's a show about a cult that is beginning to unravel, starring Michelle Monaghan, Hugh Dancy, and Aaron Paul. It definitely earns its MA rating, so it's not for the squeamish, but the story-telling and acting are excellent. It's a very balanced show that has great pacing and makes room to really show the complexities of something as dark and complicated as life in a cult. It's riveting and challenging and I highly recommend it if you're into well-told dark narratives that explore things like family, faith, and fraud.

My two new babes from Kate Spade came in! Over the Memorial Day weekend, I decided to treat myself. I'd gotten a little bonus from work and with the move stressing me out and Memorial Day sales in full effect, I thought I'd grab a few things I'd been needing. One, a little card holder/mini wallet for going out. I'm obsessed with my full-sized Cardcaptor Sakura Wallet but it just doesn't fit in all of my purses, especially not the ones I use when I go out. So now I have this little lemonade colored cutie (#branding). I also had been in the market for a black medium-ish crossbody bag. I have a lightweight nylon pink one (also Kate Spade) that I adore, but I wanted something in a neutral and in a more formal finish for less casual looks. So I got this gorgeous number in black on the outside with pebble accent. It's leather, unlined, and pretty lightweight. It's exactly what I had been looking for and I got it for less than half price thanks to sales.

That's it for me. What's new with you?
